ADDRESSING SPRING

Days open up,
time stretches out
flexing its muscles -
April, May, beautiful names
parents bestow on their baby girls.

When alarms ring, mornings
are already here, warm, nudging us
out of bed - the whole day made,
everything except my cup of coffee.

Evening is an invitation -
come outside, have dinner out here,
bask in the long light,
call up thoughts and feelings
held hostage during the frigid
winter months.

June comes - building to the longest day,
sun from early to late, intense, insisting,
keeping an eye on us
all the way to the horizon,
pulling the dark along,
telling us to remember,
remember.
